DUTCH NEWCOMER WINS BOTH MAJOR TOY AWARDS!

Math Masters is rapidly gaining international recognition! Combining adventure, strategy and mathematics, this award-winning Dutch board game brings the excitement of learning through play to families and schools around the world.

A remarkable achievement for a newcomer in the international board game industry. Math Masters, created by Dutch publisher DutchGames, has won both the Dutch Game of the Year Award 2026 (Jury Award) and the Dutch People’s Choice Award 2026.

Competing alongside established international toy and game publishers, Math Masters impressed both industry experts and the Dutch public with its innovative combination of mathematics, strategy and adventure.

Launched in March 2026, Math Masters has already reached almost all game stores across the Netherlands and Belgium and is sold in 12 countries.

But the story behind Math Masters goes far beyond winning awards. From primary school classrooms to Alzheimer Cafés, the game demonstrates how the joy of playing can connect generations and encourage learning at every stage of life.

THE GAME THAT MAKES CHILDREN WANT TO DO MATHS

What if children actually wanted to practise mental arithmetic? Math Masters transforms mathematics into an exciting board game where players compete, develop strategies and navigate their way across a colourful, double-sided game board.

The objective is simple: reach the finish line before your opponents. But every move requires mathematical thinking.

What makes Math Masters particularly engaging is that everyone keeps calculating, even when it isn’t their turn.

Players solve calculations aloud while their opponents calculate along, check answers and plan their next moves. Children become so focused on winning the game that practising mathematics becomes a natural part of the adventure.

MORE THAN MATHEMATICS:

DEVELOPING ESSENTIAL LIFE SKILLS

Math Masters goes beyond practising arithmetic. According to an educational assessment by the Dutch expertise centre Speel je Vaardig, the game engages several important executive functions that support children’s learning and development. These include:

Working Memory

Keeping numbers, calculations and intermediate steps in mind while solving mathematical challenges.

Sustained Attention

Remaining focused throughout the game, including during other players’ turns.

Response Inhibition

Learning to wait, control impulses and avoid revealing answers prematurely.

Planning & Prioritisation

Thinking ahead, evaluating possibilities and deciding when to use special action cards.

Emotional Regulation

Learning to cope with mistakes, setbacks, excitement, winning and losing.

Organisation & Goal-Directed Behaviour

Structuring mathematical steps, making decisions and working towards a clear objective.

By combining these skills with playful competition, Math Masters offers an engaging way to practise mathematics while exercising important cognitive and social abilities. The game is increasingly being used in Dutch primary schools during mathematics lessons, independent learning activities and small-group exercises.

FROM CLASSROOM TO CARE HOME: A GAME FOR EVERY GENERATION

When mathematics creates moments of joy for people living with dementia

One of the most heartwarming discoveries surrounding Math Masters is its potential for older adults, including people living with dementia.

Although originally developed for children, Math Masters has already been played in Alzheimer Cafés in the Netherlands, exploring how familiar mathematical activities can encourage cognitive engagement, confidence and social interaction.

Arithmetic is a skill learned early in life. Even when dementia affects other abilities, it often remains accessible. Math Masters can help people with dementia experience moments of achievement, maintain meaningful participation and connection with others.

Verdict:

Math Masters proves that math and fun go hand in hand. In a playful and effortless way, children practice arithmetic and build fluency with basic calculations, while the game remains challenging enough for the whole family (from children to adults and grandparents) and is also highly suitable for use in schools and after-school care.

This innovative combination of strategy and mathematics makes Math Masters truly original, and the high-quality game board, cards, and playing pieces immediately reflect its excellent production quality. Beautifully designed, educational, and fun for the whole family to play together, Math Masters demonstrates that cognitive development and education can go hand in hand without making learning feel like an obligation.
